Didn't Crouch, Sr. send Sirius to Azkaban without a trial and without 
going  before the Wizengamot?  I don't think that DD ever got to talk 
with Sirius after his arrest, and had no say in the matter.  When 
Sirius finally got to talk with DD in PoA, DD was receptive and fair.
