I wonder where the sorting hat thought he *would* fit. No brains, no
ambition, no loyalty, no bravery. My best guess is that the hat
looked inside his head and asked, "Hmm, well, lad, you seem, erm,
equally suited for all the houses the same. What quality do you most
want to be, erm, expanded in yourself?" To which Peter replied, "I
want to be brave!" The hat sighed a great relief and
announced, "GRYFFINDOR!"
I used to wonder the same about Neville, but those doubts were erased.
