That I find pretty believable. Hagrid never really cared about the 
curriculum (showing Hippogriffs to third years, etc.). He always shows 
all kids what he thinks to be interesting. Hermione even mentioned, 
that Grubbly-Plank probably hadn't shown them the Thestrals until their 
7th year. herefore I can easily see Hagrid showing the Thestrals to all 
classes, including Ginny's.
