Looking back over Mary GrandPre's earlier Harry Potter covers shows
that ever since POA the back cover illustrations of the US editions
have been made from a composite of images from multiple scenes in the
associated book. This leads to the natural question of whether the
back cover of HBP is a composite of multiple scenes or a depiction of
a single scene.
If the back cover is from a single point in the book, then the common
interpretation of a killing occurring at Hogwarts is quite reasonable.
But what does it mean if the back cover images are pulled from
multiple parts of the book?
