The wonderful Blaise Zabini is introduced to us in the first book. Chapter Seven, "The Sorting Hat", which is on page 91 of my Bloomsbury book. You may have  adifferent edition, though. 
 
It goes like this:
"Well done, Ron, excellent", said Percy Weasley pompously across Harry as "Zabini, Blaise" was made a Slytherin.
