I didn't think of this when I was reading the book because for most of 
it I assumed that Draco's task was to kill Harry, not Dumbledore. Now I 
think that Dumbledore knew all about Snape's unbreakable vow, because 
Snape told him. I think that for some reason which we may not be aware 
of yet, it was important that Dumbledore not be killed by Draco 
specifically. It could be something as simple as just preventing Lucius 
Malfoy from being re-instated as a high ranking lieutenant of 
Voldemort. The only way around Snape's unbreakable vow was for Snape 
to "help" Draco by killing Dumbledore for him. I think that is what 
they were talking about in the conversation Hagrid overheard.
