Well, that blows my theory that secretly saving Regulus's life 
is what indebted Snape to Dumbledore. I really liked the idea of 
Regulus as the new Sirius!

But it does seem pretty clear that whoever RAB is, he or she knew (knows) about the prophecy, since there is a reference to Voldy "meeting his match." And probably had an accomplice (as did Dumbledore) who may still be at large.

Back to the drawing board....
