Dementors- shouldn't there be a little more panic?

Right. So the Dementors are breeding, hence the strange mist all over 
the place (and fug- yes people, that is a real word :)) They are loose 
and descending on both magical and muggle worlds in their numbers. 
Wouldn't you have thought there would have been more than a mere 
mention of this in the book? More wide-spread panic, despair and many 
many more cases of muggles and wizards missing a soul? On reading the 
first chapter with Fudge explaining this to the PM, I was expecting 
more use of the Dementors. After all, JKR has been very deliberate in 
pointing out where the Dementors are and what they are doing...not to 
mention how frightening and evil they are. A tad lame if their sole use 
is to depict how desperate the situation is- no?

Ah- light bulb moment- perhaps with all these patronuses flying about 
the place communicating with the OoTP the Dementors are unwittingly 
beign defeated? (clutches at straws)

Really I just wanted to post on something other than Snape!
