What use is Snape in the rest of the plot?

I wonder if Snape is a Horcrux, admitted it to DD (who would know how
to verify it), and THAT is why DD trusted Snape so much.  So, in HP7,
Harry faces LV after finding 3 of the 4 remaining HXs while Snape
lurks. Does Snape take an AK to the chest to save Harry, leaving Harry
to finish off LV? 

Of course, Bellatrix might be a safer HX since she does less original
thinking--follows blindly--than Snape.
