I think that they can as proven in PS for the fist time if you assume
that Harry is a Horcrux which I think he is. An example that came to
me some days ago might provide proof:
The dream Harry had after he got sorted out for Griffindor in PS.
There he dreamt that he wore Quirrel's turban and that this tired to
convince him to join the house of Slytherin. Harry tried to pull it
off but did not succeed. It even wrapped itself even more tighter
around his head.
Could this turban be a personification of the piece of soul Harry
bears within him? For sure a piece of a Slytherin ancestor's would try
to go where its "home" is, especially because DD says in HBP that
Hogwarts always meant something special to Voldemort. So harry tried
to clear himself of some kind of parasite which he could not get rid
of.
What about that?
