hmmm.  good thoughts...But I think that Snape's ability to do 
legilimency was not supposed to be well-known - otherwise, this might 
cause havoc for when he is spying.    Since this is not a course that 
is taught at Hogwarts, I think the WW maybe keeping this a secret, as 
it is a very invasive way to get the truth from someone.  It is a mind-
rape, in my opinion and it may be something that is not commonly known 
or talked about in polite circles.

I think Snape had to have been doing this for years, as he was a 
double-triple-spy way back when.
