Two theories:  one is that the whole WW has become so highly charged 
that everyone is stressed and fraught and so turns to some sort of 
light relief, i.e. drink.  The second theory is that they have always 
had drink but because everyone is so much older it is more visible to 
them and possibly not as hidden from them.
