I read something in another post (I wish I could find it), but the 
theory goes something like this: DD himself is immortal, a 
human "phoenix" if you will. Clues: withered, burned hand (the 
beginning of the phoenix 'burning'?); the phoenix Harry thought he 
saw at the funeral ("Harry thought, for one heart-stopping moment, 
that he saw a phoenix fly joyfully into the blue...." p645, US).

Might this explain why he is something of an expert at faing deaths?
