Just to add on ...a gaze is more like a thoughtful pause - it sounds more like Snape is reading DD's mind and comprehending it .
DD probably gives him a silent order - Do the AK on me Snape ...and Snape's utter disgust, hatred and revulsion towards doing dark magic again shows on his face before he finally concedes to DD's last order to him.
