You know, I never once thought Mrs Weasley was asking the platform 
because she didn't know it herself. 

Asking "What's the platform?" to me sounded like a way of keeping the 
kids' interest and making them feel involved  I can remember my mum 
using a similar tactic when I was Ginny's (PS) age!
