I think you are onto something there. I wonder if the diary was the
horcrux left in Hogwarts since he "preserved his 16 year old self."
Gringotts is intrguing. After all, the goblins don't strike me as the
kind that would jump up and say, "OOOh, he has a vault here and it's
number 666! Here let me show you!" He could not walk in the front
door, but it has been broken into before. This certainly is an
interesting possibility, IMO.
