Ok I *know* that this is movie contamination. . please forgive me  .. but if 
that silvery orb were supposed to be anything other than the moon (especially 
if it was supposed to be a clue to something else) I think that JKR would have 
told Cuaron and Kloves that it shouldn't be shown as the moon.  We know that 
she told Cuaron he couldn't put a graveyard where the sundial was in POA (the 
movie)  because the Hogwart's cemetary was in another place.

I think that she would have corrected this as well.
