I want to add an idea to your list, what about being a royal 
heirloom? and therefore property of the in-famous half-blood 
prince...

After all, kings and Church personalities used to have rings that 
showed their position and power, rings that were kissed upon as a 
way of showing respect and obedience. Maybe possessions of that ring 
mark you as from royal blood?
