But is it art?

If one of the marks of literature is the ability of the writer to use 
language in original and unexpected ways, exploiting our expectations 
to surprise and stimulate and affording us fresh insights into the 
subject matter, then I'd say that this message board is proof enough 
that JKR has achieved that.

Let's not forget, one person's derivation is another's intertextual 
referencing ;)
