I thought that the second hand falling apart look of the book meant
that it was very rare, not cheap. I don't think that Potions would be
the same without Snape teaching it so I really can't believe that he
would not teach it. I also don't think that Harry managed even an "E,"
I mean he really isn't that good, is he? On the other hand, if all of
the grades are on a curve then it is possible that his was raised up
to an O. For the IB diploma (anyone heard of it?) The highest test
grade is a 7, but in such classes as higher level physics you only
need a high C to get the 7. Perhaps potions is like that. 

Also, I don't think that JKR would take the snape/harry interaction
out of the books.
