Well, we know Mundungus is a petty thief,  so it's not much of a
stretch to think he might have been trying to sneak a case of wiskey
or a keg of Ale out the back door. I don't think it's a great mystery,
I think it's just more of Mundungus's typical behavior. 

Just a thought. True, not a fun or exciting thought, but still reasonable.
