This is a point I have wondered about as well. I think that once Neville 
has gone to Ollivander's for his new wand, that it would be interesting to 
compare both the wood and the core of his new wand with that of his father's 
wand. That might tell us a whole lot about why the old wand performed so 
poorly in Neville's hands. By the way, I'm new here too. This is my first 
post.
