My personal idea about splinching is not that the Wizard gets
physically severed from his body parts (as Harry envisions), but that
the Wizard gets stuck somewhere in hyperspace/4th dimension/sub-ether
(whatever you prefer) with only certain parts of them still protruding
into normal space, causing the illusion of disembodied eyes, limbs,
organs, etc. floating around.
