Good question that. But don't forget that in feudal era wizards 
lived among Muggles and they probably didn't think there was a need 
to tamper Muggle technical progress because they profited from it 
too. Why they don't bother to take necessary precautions nowadays I 
cannot say. Probably jut being stupid.
