Correct me if I am wrong, I can't remember if it is a line in the movie or 
if it is from the book but in CoS when Malfoy is in DD's office, DD hands 
Malfoy the book and says something about being more careful with Tom's old 
school things. The diary says Tom Riddle. Malfoy must make the connection. 
Would he not do a big of checking into the past of Tom Riddle? If for 
anything else, to learn more about his master. Especially with the obsession 
of the whole pure-blood thing. Just a thought.
