No, as a matter of fact, you are not alone on this. I have something 
to add to the speculations. I was reading an interview with JKR and 
she expressed dismay over a foreign book cover showing Harry without 
glasses. She said something to the effect that they didn't 
understand that his eyes were the key to his vulnerability. Now, how 
often are referenced made that Harry has his mother's eyes, whose 
were green, too? Interesting.
