He actually makes an appearance under this very name "Mr. Snape" in 
Heyer's "The Foundling" – a very unpleasant tutor, supervising the 
education of a very likable boy. A "bore", a "flogger", and 
altogether "joyless personage" whom no one "has any difficulty in 
disliking".
