My take was that she thought that, with Harry having a girlfriend, it 
was high time that Ron woke up and smelled the coffee. She started 
writing the letter in an effort to make him think of her as someone 
others would be attracted to. Especially if that someone is a famous 
quidditch star that the one you have a crush on respected.

Casey, who's a R/H shipper but not really all that involved in it, 
it's just what she's seen in the books from the very earliest 
chapters.
