Thanks koinonia, I could not have found that quote all by myself!

I had remembered the wording as "a new pet", not "a different pet"
I was pretty sure that Hedwig would survive, but now I'm not so sure ;-(
Maybe Hedwig takes an AK for Harry just like Fawles did for Dumbledore.
I will surely shed tears at that point if it happens.
