There was a reason to put this event into the story. It was calling 
attention to the fact that Kreacher was missing. Additionally, because 
of that, I don't think the blanket could have any affect on Kreacher's 
relationship with Hermione because he didn't even know where the 
blanket came from. It was just there. He may not have even noticed it.
