Whizbang:

I think you're right on both counts.  But I do think Snape left the
pensieve for Harry to see.  And it had exactly the effect he wanted,
Harry doubted his father.  It rattled Harry's belief that James was a
good person.   He's been telling Harry since day one how bad James was
and that Harry is just like him.  I think this was a deliberate
illustration.  The problem is, I think Harry reached all the wrong
conclusions, because Snape was always the aggressor and the Marauders,
with a terrible secret to protect, were always on the defensive, even
in SWM.
