This is *exactly* why I think Dumbledore had *no* thoughts of Harry 
going after the Stone.  Dumbledore has set a trap, a way to catch 
the dark wizard or witch going after the Stone in the first place.  
It was not a testing ground for young Harry.

Harry very nearly screwed the entire plan and very nearly got 
himself and his friends killed.  I think Dumbledore was happy Harry 
made it through, and I think he was happy Harry showed such amazing 
initiative, but I think he was *horrified* when he first realized 
Harry had gone after the Stone. 

Those are my thoughts anyway. :)
