Whiz: 
I won't suggest that CrouchJr isn't a lunatic.  But remember, he hated
a DE who got away, as Malfoy and others did when they claimed to be
under the Imperious while others were in Azkaban for their loyalty. 
And he was ingratiating himself with Harry, who he intended to deliver
to his master at the end of the year.  So I don't think CrouchJr was
acting on the side of good when he attacked Draco.  He was venting
frustration against Lucius and protecting his prey.
