Percy the Prefect

I've always wondered why Percy had turned against his family so 
completely. True, he's a prissy by the book kind of Wizard, very 
ambitious and always trying to be the center of attention.  But what 
if it's more than that? Is it feasable that he could be under an 
Imperius Curse? Or could he have been somehow subjugated by LV and be 
a spy or pawn? It's hard for me to imagine that he could have turned 
against his family as much as he has unless there was some kind of 
outward intervention or control involved.
