The lethality or non-lethality of that cave potion is quite irrelevant
in the matter of Snape's treachery. Snape had no way of knowing that
there was a cave, or potion in the cave, or that Dumbledore visited
the cave, or that he drank the potion in the cave, or that such a
potion even existed. People keep saying Dumbledore was going to die
anyway, well maybe and maybe not, but Snape couldn't know one way or
the other by looking at him from across the room for two seconds.
