Maria: 
I think that after 5 years, with no DADA-teacher lasting more than a
single year, he's basing his certainty on experience. It may only be a
*rumour* that the job is jinxed, but nothing has yet managed to prove to him that the rumour is wrong, so I think he's just taking it for granted.
