said) while "serious" has a long "e" like the first "e" in "cereal."

I looked up how to say Sirius on the scholastic website, http://www.scholastic.com/harrypotter/reference/ , and, being American too, it sounds just like Serious, with the long e.  But I'm wondering if the scholastic site is just American, or is their a british site with pronunciations?
