Dumbledore's trust in Severus Snape does, indeed, seem absolute,
and I would hesitate to doubt his wise judgement. Though much of
what
we've learned about Snape is unsavory, and his personality more than
a
little caustic, in his actions to protect Harry he has been
steadfast. "Praesto et persto" - I stand, and I stand firm.
In his admission that he is perfectly capable of making mistakes,
Dumbledore again shows his wisdom. Only fools, tyrants, and
politicians believe themselves to be infallible. But that Dumbledore
CAN make mistakes doesn't mean he HAS. And actions which seem to
him,
in retrospect, to have led him in the wrong direction may yet prove
to
arrive at the very place he desired.
