I agree that, as a spy, it certainly wouldn't do for Snape to be
jotting down random thoughts.  However, as a lonely, angst-ridden
teen, it would make perfect sense for Snape to retreat to his little
internal world through his writing.  I'd love to see more of Snape's
writing (beyond that in his old Potions textbook), and certainly look
forward to greater insight into his character in Book 7.
