There is a second explanation. Some people may have already known the 
secret at the time the Fidelius Charm was cast. The Charm would not 
wipe these people's memories of this fact-it would merely prevent them 
from spreading it. So Dumbledore, Sirius, and a few other friends of 
the Potters may have known without needing to be told by Peter.
