My guess is that he couldn't take off the ring for some reason. We
know it had a super nasty curse on it. Or perhaps he was just keeping
it safe. Also, we know that Voldemort didn't know that his diary was
destroyed in CoS until told by Malfoy, so we can guess he hasn't felt
this one be destroyed either.
