Rachel:
I believe the horcrux has to be something that Godric Gryffindor had and not 
just a member of his house.  Also - Harry could have been a squib, there 
would be no way of Voldemort (and Pettigrew even) of knowing this.  Lastly - 
although families do have a knack for being in the same house, this is not 
always the case (see Padma and Parvati Patil, for instance).  I have heard 
the theory of Harry being a horcrux before, however I don't think Harry can 
be the horcrux which is Gryffindor's.
