Tom Riddle

I was just rereading the 4th book and in the beginning when they are 
talking of the deaths of the Riddle family, Frank Bryce says that all 
three were dead....meaning a man, a wife, and a son- Tom Marvolo 
Riddle.... does anyone have any explanations for me? I thought his 
mother died during childbirth, his father abandoned him, and he was 
well alive, or as alive as he could be. Please, someone clear this up 
for me....
