Oh my goodness, not only NO but H@## NO.  Snape has severe punishment
coming for his treatment of Harry and Neville, IMO, regardless of his
status vis-a-vis Dumbledore and the war against Voldemort.  His
actions in that regard IN NO WAY release him from punishment for his
abuse of Harry and Neville.  And yes, IMO JKR will have failed in a
particularly reprehensible and contemptible way, otherwise.

That's a good one.  How about liason with the Muggle Prime Minister
