In PoA, Chapter "Marauder's Map", Hagrid says that Sirius Black
lent/gave Hagrid his motorbike and said he (Sirius) wouldn't need any
anymore.
Why?
Pam:
My thought on this was that he knew his next stop (if Hagrid didn't give him Baby Harry, which was why he went there in the first place) was to go after Peter Pettigrew. He knew that if he killed Pettigrew, he would be going to Azkaban. Ask it turned out of course, he was half right. Of course, Sirius isn't thinking quite rationally at the moment; he knew he'd be going to Azkaban but didn't quite work out what would happen to the baby had Hagrid given Harry to him. But we see even 12 years later, Sirius is still reckless and short-sighted, isn't he?
