It's also Hippocampus hippocampus, aka the short-snouted seahorse.   (The one 
we all know from aquariums.)  Hippocampus is the genus for all  seahorses.  
 
Hippocampus (campuses?  campii?) come from ancient Greek  mythology - among 
other things, they pulled Poseidon's chariot.
