Either that, or there was no conflict of interest. Snape's attitude when he took the vow was that he wasn't promising to do anything that he wasn't going to do anyway (which is why Trixie's jaw kept bouncing off the floor). Maybe it was Occlumancy, or maybe it was because it fit neatly into Snape and Dumbledore's plans.
