Actually that's a really interesting idea because it kills two birds 
with one stone. It explains where Voldemort was in book 6 (off 
gathering the "Deathly Hallows") and it ties in with Trelawny's 
prophecy in book 3 about Voldemort being even more powerful the second 
time around.
