I think they are referring to the hunting halloo or view-halloo.

Plus, just to be sure we're all reading from the same songbook, can we just
clear up the pronunciation?  Hallo (greeting) rhymes with "pal JOE".
Hallows (whatever definition of holy it is) is pronounced HALL-ohs, to rhyme
with "gallows".  IMO.  Did anyone have any other variation of this?
