I wouldn't totally rule out that there is a Horcrux in the house. But I
don't see why you think that it is important for LV?
After returning to England, he needed shelter. Being very weak and still
hiding, it would have been dangerous for him to return to the wizarding
world, so he chose to live in the muggle world. And he probably knew, that
the Riddle House was abandoned due to the murders he himself had committed.
So why not hiding in his father's house, that he might think was his
righteous possession? Additionaly, the house should be near the grave of his
father, which he knew he would need - so this hiding place is a good one for
him for obvious reasons - no need to look for mysteries here IMO.
